About This Soundtrack
The first season of Widow's Bay (2026) offers a brilliant fusion of supernatural horror and sharp, dark comedy. Created by Katie Dippold and streaming on Apple TV+, the series uses its remote coastal setting to construct an atmosphere where superstition and reality blur. The soundtrack curated for these six episodes plays a key role in maintaining this fragile balance, shifting from classic hip-hop and vintage jazz to unsettling post-punk and synth-pop that accentuates the town's oddities.
Composer David Fleming collaborates closely with music supervisor Toko Nagata to assemble a musical identity that is as unpredictable as the island's weather. By pairing licensed tracks from iconic artists like David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Brian Eno with obscure library pieces and contemporary indie rock, the show creates a distinct sense of place. Each song choices acts as a counterpoint to the escalating strangeness faced by Matthew Rhys's skeptical mayor.
From the upbeat grooves of Jurassic 5 in the pilot episode to the haunting melodies of Brian Eno & John Cale during nighttime encounters, the music heightens both the comedic beats and the underlying tension. For fans of eclectic soundtracks, the series provides a rich listening experience that mirrors the dual nature of the town itselfâwelcoming on the surface, but deeply strange underneath.
