James Paul Marsden was born on September 18, 1973, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He is an American actor, singer, and former model. Marsden began his acting career guest-starring in television shows such as Saved by the Bell: The New Class, Touched by an Angel, and Party of Five. He gained prominence in the early 2000s for his portrayal of Scott Summers / Cyclops in the X-Men superhero film franchise, a role he played across multiple installments.

Beyond blockbusters, Marsden established himself as a versatile leading man in romantic dramas and comedies. He starred in the Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Notebook (2004) and went on to show his musical and comedic talents in Hairspray (2007) and Disney's Enchanted (2007). He has also found major success in television, starring in HBO's sci-fi series Westworld (2016–2022), Netflix's dark comedy Dead to Me (2020–2022), and receiving an Emmy nomination for playing a satirical version of himself in the comedy series Jury Duty (2023).
